Feeling like you are walking into a furnace this week? Stress, pressure, anxiety, temptation, uncertainty, sometimes life turns the heat up before the week even really begins. But remember this: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7
In Daniel 3, King Nebuchadnezzar built a massive golden image and commanded everyone to bow when the music played. Thousands of people hit their knees immediately because the punishment for refusing was terrifying, a blazing furnace heated so hot it killed the soldiers standing near it. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stayed standing. Imagine the silence around them as everyone else bowed. They knew exactly what it could cost them. Yet they answered the king, “Our God is able to deliver us… but even if He does not, we will not serve your gods.” They trusted God more than they feared the fire.
And when they were thrown into the furnace, God did not abandon them there. Nebuchadnezzar looked into the flames and saw not three men, but four. The fire that was meant to destroy them could not even burn their clothes. Sometimes God delivers us from the fire, and sometimes He walks with us through it. Either way, fear does not get the final word.
May your week be without fear. May you stand firm when pressure tries to make you bow. May your mind remain steady when life gets loud, and may you never forget that even in the middle of the fire, God is still walking beside you.
