Jeremiah 17:14
“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.”

There is a story in John 9 about a man Jesus healed of blindness, blindness since birth. Remember, the Bible doesn’t mention things unless they matter. Blindness like this often points to something that was never fully developed in his mother’s womb, possibly something like optic nerve hypoplasia. This man’s creation was unfinished. But healing a blind man is not the highlight I want to point out, it’s the way Jesus did it. Jesus spit in the dirt, scooped up the mud, and rubbed it on the man’s eyes.

Before you say how disgusting this is, read this:
Genesis 2:7 “…then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground…”

Woah. Stay there for a moment. Then read this:
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

This moment with the blind man was an intersection of time and space, of God’s divine creation. His body was incomplete and broken, and Jesus stepped in with the same authority He had at the beginning, using the dust of the earth to finish the work in him.

I don’t know any of you who are completely blind in sight, but this brings up another kind of blindness, blindness of the heart. Another collision of God’s Word shows up here:
Psalm 51:10 – “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
That word “create” isn’t about fixing something small, it’s about making something new. This week, may the Creator reach into the dust from which you were made and form in you a new heart, one that is whole, one that sees clearly, and one that is ready to serve Him, because you are wonderfully made and deeply loved.
